Originally scheduled for April of 2020, we are thrilled after almost two years(!) to present our production of Arsenic and Old Lace. This charming 1941 stage comedy revolves around the two elderly Brewster sisters who have taken to poisoning lonely old men as a kindness to them. Their nephew Teddy, who thinks he is Theodore Roosevelt, willingly buries them in the basement thinking they are scarlet fever victims from the Panama Canal. The sisters’ other nephew (and the play’s hero), a drama critic named Mortimer, discovers what has been happening and tries to handle the madness while dealing with his fiancée, Elaine. Finally, we meet the third brother, Jonathan, a notorious villain accompanied by a bumbling plastic surgeon, Dr. Einstein, who has made Jonathan resemble actor Boris Karloff. Add in the NYC Police Department, and you have a truly hilarious show.
Arsenic and Old Lace will be presented at the Fellowship Cultural Arts Center in Basking Ridge on November 6, 12, and 13 at 7:30 pm; and on November 7 and 14 at 2:30 pm.
