Meet Dr. Kara Zuleg of Hand in Hand Chiropractic: Serving Families with Heart in Mendham, NJ!
If you’ve strolled down Main Street in Mendham lately, you may have noticed a welcoming new spot that’s already making a big difference for local families: Hand in Hand Chiropractic. We sat down with owner and chiropractor Dr. Kara Zuleg, D.C., to learn more about her journey, the services she offers, and how she’s helping local families feel their best, one adjustment at a time.
Q: Dr. Kara, can you tell us a little about your background and what brought you to chiropractic care?
Absolutely! You could say chiropractic has been a part of my life since day one (I actually received my very first adjustment at just two weeks old.) My parents believed in the benefits of chiropractic care from birth and made it an important part of our family’s active and healthy lifestyle. Growing up, regular adjustments helped me stay at my best in school, dance, and soccer, and to this day, my whole family continues care so we can be our healthiest selves.
That foundation, seeing firsthand how chiropractic supported both me and my family, really inspired me to want to share those same benefits with others. While attending Ramapo College of New Jersey, where I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Biology, I also worked as a chiropractic assistant for my family’s chiropractor. Watching him care for people and witnessing the impact it had on their lives really cemented my desire to pursue this profession.
I went on to attend Life University in Marietta, Georgia, where I earned my Doctorate of Chiropractic and graduated summa cum laude in 2020. Today, I love that I get to provide chiropractic care not only for my own family but also for families in our community.
Q: After graduating, where did you begin practicing?
I started out as an associate chiropractor at Southern Connecticut Chiropractic in Derby, CT. It was a thriving family-focused practice, and I got great hands-on experience working with patients of all ages, especially families and children. Still, I always knew I wanted to return to New Jersey and open a practice of my own.
Q: And that led you to Mendham?
Exactly! I opened Hand in Hand Chiropractic in April 2022, right here in Mendham. It’s been an amazing experience to grow a practice in my home state and serve the local community. I love working with kids, families, and pregnant women, and I’m certified in the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), which allows me to offer specialized prenatal care.
Q: What services do you offer at your practice?
We offer chiropractic care for all ages, including newborns, children, adults, and seniors. Our services include family chiropractic, prenatal and postnatal care, pediatric adjustments, and wellness-based chiropractic to help with things like posture, stress, digestion, headaches, and more. Each care plan is tailored to the individual, because no two bodies are exactly alike!
Q: You offer pediatric care, what does that look like?
Pediatric chiropractic care is all about supporting kids as they grow, play, and stay active. From sports and technology overuse to everyday stress, children’s spines can face a lot of strain. Regular adjustments help ensure their spines and nervous systems are healthy, which supports proper growth, posture, and overall development.
For many families, pediatric care also provides relief for common childhood concerns such as allergies, trouble focusing, ear infections, digestive issues, poor posture, scoliosis, sleep difficulties, and sports injuries. By keeping the spine aligned, chiropractic care helps kids adapt to life’s daily stressors and thrive as they grow.
Q: What benefits does chiropractic care have on the overall body?
Chiropractic care supports the nervous system, which controls every function in the body. When there’s less interference in the nervous system—through gentle, specific adjustments—it allows the body to function more optimally. That can look like better sleep, improved digestion, stronger immune function, reduced stress, fewer headaches, less tension, and better mobility. It’s all about helping the body do what it’s naturally designed to do!
Q: If someone is new to chiropractic care, what does the process look like for getting started?
It’s super simple! We make sure every new patient feels comfortable and supported from day one.
Day 1: Consultation & Exam
We’ll start with a one-on-one consultation where we talk through your health history, current concerns, and wellness goals. From there, we’ll do a thorough chiropractic examination to assess your spine, posture, and range of motion. We also use a thermography scanner to give us a clearer picture of how your nervous system is functioning. Depending on your history and exam results, spinal X-rays may be recommended — and for your convenience, we offer X-rays in-house.
Day 2: Review of Findings & First Adjustment
On your next visit, we’ll review all of your exam findings (and X-rays, if taken) together. I’ll explain what we discovered, walk you through how it connects to your health goals, and present a personalized care plan tailored just for you. That visit also includes your first adjustment, which officially begins your healing process.
From there, we continue with a care plan that’s unique to you and your lifestyle, designed to help you get the best results and keep moving toward your health goals.
Q: Do you take insurance?
Yes! We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and Medicare. For other insurance providers, I am considered out-of-network, but I offer several affordable family wellness plans to make care accessible. I’m also happy to provide a superbill for patients who wish to submit for any out-of-network benefits through their insurance. This way, families have options and can choose the plan that works best for them.
