Meet Jessica Walker of J. Walker Salon Group! | Morris Bernards Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I was born in Alabama and grew up on a family farm that had horses, chickens and few dogs. My family moved to New Jersey when I was six years old and I’ve lived in Far Hills since 1994.

Children and Ages?
Jianna, 26, Justina 22, Jenna 19, Chase 12, Cayden 9.

Are you involved in a business venture or the corporate world?
I am the sole owner and president of the J Walker Salon Group of Bernardsville, Basking Ridge and Mendham. I started my business in 1997 at the tender age of 19, and with vision, hard work and an entrepreneurial spirit, I’ve been able to grow the business from one salon to four locations offering upscale beauty and wellness services, along with a bridal and event business. While these are my professions, my true passion is helping people. When the outer looks good, the inner feels better…and that is what I firmly believe. Through my business, I am able to help people look and feel their best and that is so gratifying.

When did you decide you wanted to be a cosmetologist?
When I was 16, I started working at a local salon and really loved it. I followed my passion of making people feel beautiful and happy!

If you could give one tip to Mom Entrepreneurs, what would it be?
Dream big, dream often! Since I started my business at the very young age of 19—and faced many skeptics along the way–I love mentoring other women. My advice would be to have audacious goals and realize there are many ways to accomplish them and fulfill your dreams. Hard challenges will come but listen to your inner voice and take calculated risks. Also, realize the path you take may not be the one you originally intended. Be true to yourself and you will find happiness and success. Okay, that is more than one tip, but I can’t help sharing!

One thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I am a certified personal life and business coach and have received SEAL Leadership Professional Training via Authentica.
