Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the area?
I’m originally from eastern Long Island, but my dad grew up in Morristown, so I’ve been visiting this area my whole life. My husband grew up in Randolph and we moved there in 2017 to raise our children here.
Child(ren) and Age(s)?
My son James is 13 and my daughter Morgan is 11.
Are you involved in a business venture or corporate world? Please Share!
I was a CPA and held both accounting and HR roles at various corporate and nonprofit jobs in Boston, Maine, and DC before deciding to start my own home organizing business, Clutter to Clarity, in 2021.
When did you decide you wanted to open your own Home Organizing Business?
When I first watched Clean Sweep on TLC about 20 years ago I knew professional organizing was something I wanted to do someday, but I wasn’t sure when. When I moved to New Jersey in 2017, I was still working remotely for an organization in Washington DC. Then the pandemic hit and I started reevaluating my life during many walks in my neighborhood. This dream of being a professional organizer rose to the surface. I started helping friends organize their homes virtually through Zoom and realized that it was time to make my dream a reality. I worked on setting up my business and practicing virtually with friends until I was vaccinated and could go into people’s homes safely.
Has helping people get organized always been a part of your life?
I’ve always been a very organized person and helping people has always been a passion of mine, but I did not marry these two interests until just a few years ago.
What part of the house do you recommend for someone looking to get started with home organizing?
If someone is overwhelmed about where to start, I always say start with your biggest pain point in the house or if you are really not sure of where that is, then start with your bedroom. As moms, our lives are busy and stressful and our bedrooms should be calm, clutter-free sanctuaries where we start and end our day.
If you could give one tip to fellow Mom Entrepreneurs what would it be?
Find communities to join – whether local or virtual. It’s so helpful to have other entrepreneurs that you can connect with, brainstorm with, vent with.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
My house is not clean and tidy all of the time. I do have a husband and two kids….
